Week One: Ephesians 1
In this passage, the apostle Paul writes to a divided church and reminds them of the promises God has made to all people in Christ. In Ephesians 1, we see that In Christ, both Jews and Gentiles are included in God’s family, God’s blessing, and God’s Kingdom. All the blessings God’s people hoped for in the Old Testament are poured out in Christ.

  • Revelation: What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through the text?
  • Response: How does this revelation affect the rest of your life – i.e. what is your appropriate response/act of obedience?
  • Prayer: Ephesians 1:17-20

Week Two: Ephesians 2-3
In this passage, the apostle Paul explains that God has planned from the beginning of time to include both Jews and Gentiles into one family. In Ephesians 2-3, we see that while the world wants to divide its people, in Christ, the Spirit unifies all people. And in Christ, there is only one nation, without borders, consisting of people from all tribes, tongues, and languages.

  • Revelation: What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through the text?
  • Response: How does this revelation affect the rest of your life – i.e. what is your appropriate response/act of obedience?
  • Prayer: Ephesians 3:14-21

Week Three: Ephesians 4
In this passage, we see that if we have put on freedom from division and sin, we need to take off the old ways that cause division and sin. In Ephesians 4, we see that since Jesus willingly laid down his life, we can now lay down our old life too. The life marked by sin has been nailed to the cross, and Jesus’ righteous life has been given to us in exchange.

  • Revelation: What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through the text?
  • Response: How does this revelation affect the rest of your life – i.e. what is your appropriate response/act of obedience?
  • Prayer: “Father, thank You that You have opened my understanding to the futility of what I was. Thank You that You have exposed the snare from which faith in Christ has delivered me. May I never forget the position, privileges, and promises that are mine in Christ Jesus, by grace through faith. Thank You for opening my eyes to the truth of Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Week Four: Ephesians 5:1-6:9
In this passage, we see that being like Jesus in love, light, and wisdom will lead us to humbly submit to one another in the power of the Holy Spirit. In Ephesians 5:1-6:9, we see that when we struggle to live like Jesus towards others, we can always look to what Jesus has done for us.

  • Revelation: What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through the text?
  • Response: How does this revelation affect the rest of your life – i.e. what is your appropriate response/act of obedience?
  • Prayer: “Loving Father, I want to be more and more like Christ, to walk in the newness of life, and to truly be a life where Christ can be seen in me. I know I cannot do this in my own strength, but I pray that in the power of the Spirit, having everything I need for life and godliness, I would learn to walk in love, so that I become a living sacrifice that is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Week Five: Ephesians 6:10-23
In this passage, Paul tells us that our real battle isn’t against people but spiritual powers. In Ephesians 6:10-23, we see that our battle is primarily spiritual, but that’s also it’s primarily fought by God. Jesus has already defeated the powers, and we can freely walk in his victory.

  • Revelation: What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through the text?
  • Response: How does this revelation affect the rest of your life – i.e. what is your appropriate response/act of obedience?
  • Prayer: “Heavenly Father, thank You that Christ Jesus has won the victory over sin, Satan, and the spiritual forces that work in the darkness of this world. Help me to recognise that I can only defeat the spiritual enemies that war in the world today, through Christ. Thank You for providing me with the means to live a victorious life in Christ, through the Word of God, prayer and praise, and by abiding in Christ and He in me. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
