Fight the Good Fight

“But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:11-12 NIV

In this three-part series, “Fight the Good Fight”, Pastor Mark Slevin explores key ideas around cultivating a life of faith.

  1. Keep your eyes open
  2. Keep your prayers up
  3. Keep your heart burning

Watch the full message below, or dive right into the three points here.

Week One: Keep Your Eyes Open

Scriptures: Ephesians 6:10-18 MSG

Keep your eyes open. Open to what? What faith sees. The fight on hand, the weapons we have and the victory God gives us in the fight.

Take up the weapons and learn how to apply them – righteousness, truth, peace, faith, salvation.
What’s the best thing you can do? Keep going over what God has done for you – “in view of God’s mercy…” (Romans 12:1)

“The first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day is to have my soul happy in the Lord.” George Muller

  • Revelation: What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through the text?
  • Response: How does this revelation affect the rest of your life – i.e. what is your appropriate response/act of obedience?
  • Prayer.

Week Two: Keep Your Prayers up

Scriptures: Ephesians 6:10-18 MSG; Psalm 63 NIV

It’s not about duration, but DESIRE.
Jesus stood up and spoke – If anyone WANTS come and get living water from me … COME (John 17).
We pray with desire – we feed our faith in passionate prater.

Your love is better than life …. Better than money, esteem, sex, power.
The more you get to know Him, the more beautiful He is.

  • Response: How does this revelation affect the rest of your life – i.e. what is your appropriate response/act of obedience?
  • Prayer.

Week Three: Keep Your Heart Burning

Scriptures: Ephesians 6:10-18 MSG; Psalm 63 NIV

“A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. His name will be the hope of all the world.” Isaiah 42:3-4 (NIV & NLT)

Get near the flame, get near the fire… draw near to the presence of God.
