CAN’T FIND A BETTER MAN (BOAZ WEEK 4) – DYLAN JAHNIG
Scriptures:
Ruth 4
Ephesians 2:19-22 MSG
Points:
1. Opens His Mouth
2. Opens His Eyes
3. Opens His Wallet
Boaz is a picture of Jesus Christ, who came at great cost to redeem us and place us in a family, giving us a future and establishing His Church.
Ruth 4 – Boaz redeemed the family’s future, just as Jesus redeems our future.
When you invite Christ to be the Lord and Savior of your life, the Holy Spirit testifies that you are a child of God. This is not just about being part of a local church, but about a redemptive story – written over your life at a great cost.
“Naomi took the child, laid him in her lap, and cared for him. The women living there said, “Naomi has a son,” and they named him Obed, who became the father of Jesse, the father of David.”
A foreign woman from a bitter background enters a blessed field and within a short time carries a king.
This is the power of the local church, where bitter and broken people are transformed into carriers of the Kingdom.
1. Opens His Mouth
Boaz opens His mouth with blessing.
In chapter two, Boaz arrives from Bethlehem, greets the harvesters, and says, “The Lord be with you.” They respond, “The Lord bless you.” This is a picture of how God blesses us.
When you come into the local church, the first words from Heaven are not about your shortcomings, but about what you have because of who He is. God’s first greeting is a blessing. Boaz’s mouth speaks blessings, not curses, just as our words should bless and not curse.
2. Opens His Eyes
Boaz opens his eyes to see Ruth.
He notices her in his field, recognising her brokenness. Jesus sees us in our brokenness and draws us into a story beyond our imagination. Even when we’re just coming to church for comfort, He sees us and writes a new story over our lives.
His eyes are always on us, watching over us, and inviting us into His grace.
3. Opens His Wallet
Boaz opens his wallet.
The kinsman-redeemer was unwilling to risk his estate, but Boaz was willing to pay the price. This mirrors how Jesus paid the ultimate price to redeem us. Our lives came at a great cost, one that only Jesus was willing to pay. Boaz redeemed Ruth and her family, ensuring their future. Similarly, Jesus redeems our lives, ensuring a future filled with His grace and blessings.
“You cannot find a better man than Boaz”, and ultimately, Jesus.
Boaz speaks blessings, sees those in need, and pays the price for redemption. This is a beautiful reflection of Jesus’ love and sacrifice for us. May we be a church that speaks blessings, sees people in their need, and carries the heart of Jesus in all we do.
“That’s plain enough, isn’t it? You’re no longer wandering exiles. This kingdom of faith is now your home country. You’re no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He’s using us all—irrespective of how we got here—in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day—a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home.” Ephesians 2:19-22 MSG
