Open House: Strategic Focus

In a world that’s constantly changing, how do we create lasting impact? How do we build something that will outlive us and continue to shape generations to come?

At the heart of this reflection lies a powerful vision: the God-breathed life.

Imagine a world where God’s word is alive in every person’s sphere of influence – in business, in family, in education. Picture dinner tables buzzing with conversations about Scripture, marriages strengthened through prayer, and workplaces infused with divine purpose. This isn’t just a lofty ideal; it’s a call to action for each of us to bring God’s truth into our everyday realities.

To turn this vision into reality, we need a strategy. Think of it as an engine of change – a flywheel that requires consistent effort to keep spinning. Just as we instinctively know when a space in our home needs refreshing, we must be attuned to the need for renewal in our spiritual lives and communities. The key is to create irresistible environments that inspire faith and challenge people to respond to God’s calling.

As we look to the future, three strategic focus areas emerge that will guide us in everything we do:

  1. Building a Generational Legacy
The first focus is on creating multi-generational impact. This means making decisions and taking actions that don’t just benefit one age group but create positive change across generations. It’s about fostering connections between young and old, ensuring that wisdom is passed down and fresh perspectives are embraced.

Imagine a church where college students regularly engage in deep conversations with retirees, where families are strengthened through targeted resources and support, and where individuals of all ages feel they belong to God’s family. This isn’t just about maintaining traditions; it’s about creating a dynamic, intergenerational community that grows stronger with each passing year.

  1. Cultivating a Strong Word-Based Community
The second focus area is building a community deeply rooted in God’s Word. This harkens back to the concept of the “Bible Belt” – not as a geographical location, but as a mindset and way of life. It’s about creating an environment where biblical principles are woven into the fabric of daily life, from boardrooms to classrooms.

Envision a community where it’s normal to open business meetings with prayer, where strategic decisions are guided by biblical wisdom, and where God’s truth is evident in every aspect of life. This isn’t about imposing beliefs on others, but about living out our faith so authentically that it naturally permeates our surroundings.

  1. Pioneering the Future of Leadership and Innovation
The final focus is on leading the way in innovation and leadership. As Erwin McManus beautifully put it, “Beavers make homes, foxes build holes, bees create hives, but humans create the future.” We are called to be pioneers, to shape tomorrow rather than simply reacting to it.

This means embracing change, not for the sake of novelty, but in pursuit of God’s ongoing work. As Isaiah 43 reminds us, God is always doing a new thing. Our challenge is to partner with Him in this work, bringing fresh ideas and approaches to how we live out our faith and build our communities.

Practical Applications

These focus areas aren’t just theoretical concepts – they have practical implications for how we live and work. For businesses, it might mean intentionally mentoring young employees while also valuing the wisdom of experienced team members. It could involve grounding company values in Scripture and being bold about sharing the biblical inspiration behind your work.

For families, it might mean creating intentional spaces for prayer and Bible study together. It could involve seeking out intergenerational friendships and learning opportunities.

For churches and community organizations, it might mean rethinking how we structure our programs and spaces to foster connections across age groups. It could involve innovative approaches to teaching and applying Scripture, ensuring that our theology is both deep and accessible.

As we reflect on these ideas, let’s challenge ourselves with a few questions:

  1. What is the “scripture across the doorway of your heart” – the core truth that drives your purpose and passion?
  2. How can you create more opportunities for intergenerational connection and learning in your sphere of influence?
  3. In what ways can you make God’s Word more central to your daily life and decision-making?
  4. What innovative ideas might God be calling you to pursue that could shape the future of your family, business, or community?

Building a legacy isn’t about grand gestures or monumental achievements. It’s about consistent, purposeful action guided by God’s truth and empowered by His Spirit. It’s about pushing that flywheel of change, even when it feels heavy, knowing that with each push, we’re building momentum for generations to come.

As we move forward, let’s do so with open hands and hearts, ready to receive God’s wisdom and guidance. Let’s be bold in our faith, innovative in our approach, and unwavering in our commitment to building a legacy that honors God and blesses others.
